Strange MAC Counter Experience...(Mini Rant)

Hey guys! I thought that maybe I'd tell you guys how one of my strange encounters with MAC went. This isn't exactly a new story, as it happened maybe about 2 months ago, but I forgot about it and just remembered it!

So it started out like this...

My mom and I were at the local mall, and just like any other mall in Toronto, it has a MAC counter. So I stopped by the counter because I wanted to pick up Macroviolet Fluidline and Studio Fix Powder. So I stopped by, and there was only one MA at the time since it was a weekday, and she was helping another customer so my mom and I just waited and swatched some items. So then it's my turn, and she comes up to me with this "I'm so tired get me out of here" look.

So I'm like... Hey, could you get me a Studio Fix Powder in NC25? She was like... Oh NO! You're definitely NC30, theres no way you could be NC25! I thought in my head... uhm, YOUR people ALWAYS match me to NC25... and she didn't even offer to try NC30 on me. I thought that since I was probably gonna get darker later, I'll just take NC30. Life went on.

So then I ask her to give me a Fluidline in Macroviolet. She was like... what? Theres no shade called Macroviolet, are you sure it's not a limited edition colour? I was like... no, i'm pretty sure I saw it on the MAC website. So she just completely ignores me and goes into the thing and gives me Waveline Fluidline, and shes like.. oh Navy Blue would look nice. I already had like... 10 navy liners, so I just told her to forget it and i'll walk around for more.

Then to my "suprise" I'm just looking at some eyeliners, and I FIND MY MACROVIOLET. So I just hand it to her and I'm like, I was looking for this. So I hand it to her and she searches for literally 5 minutes and I'm just standing there. There she finds it and I pay.

I'm not trying to attack any of you if you're a MAC or any type of MUA, but seriously... if you can work for the brand, shouldn't you at least know the products? I swear, I know the prices better than the MA serving me... how is this fair? I feel a bit like a loser, but I remember all the products from MAC and their prices; I'm sure that's a makeup junkie characteristic!

  1. totally know where you're coming from. sometimes when i go to my usual mac counter i have to find the things i want myself because the people working there don't know what i'm talking about - it's a bit ridiculous. but i guess there's a difference between work and passion ;D

  2. I totally know what you mean! I hate it when they treat you like sh*t. That's why I always leave or walk pass and ignore them...especially at the Macys counters!

  5. Hey, wow, I feel your pain! you're not the only one with this kind of service from MAC. I get it both from when I was in Singapore and worse here in Brisbane, Australia, it's weird. Back when I was in Singapore, I asked for Soft Ochre Paint Pot and Flirt & Tease Blush, she asked me whether it's a Limited Edition == I was like, uhm no, they're permanent lines!! But I left it and life moved on.
Here in Brisbane, they matched me to different shades everytime so I never got around to getting any foundation or concealer. They always have such a look as if I know nothing about makeup... ==

These MAC girls really need technique classes for customer services!! What's with them being so snobby, it's rude-

  7. I understand your feeling, this has happened to me once, but that MUA is a freelance MUA, which means they're not always in the store. So I'm guessing the MUA who served you might be a freelance as well.

One time though, at a Lancome counter, I was swatching some lipsticks hoping because I was curious about the new Colour Design ones. I was there for like a good 15 minutes. But the MUA just completely ignore my presence. She went ahead and served the ones who are older than me. I guess she thinks I couldn't afford it and was just fooling around. Well, I don't really care, because Sephora has Lancome too. It was pretty mean of her, so she lost a customer and gave me a bad impression of Lancome. Afterwards, I just hopped to NARS and MAC instead. I just think with the money we spend on the products, we deserve better customer service.

  8. Hey girl. I believe I know which MAC counter you're talking about (I think we live near that mysterious local mall haha). Anyways, I did go there a few times and this past weekend. I find that a few of them don't really pay attention to their customers. They don't make suggestions properly or at all, they just ask you if you need help only to make it LOOK like they are serving and for the hell of just ASKING (maybe they are being watched by a supervisor or something). I was swatching like 5 blushes one beside each other and I just forgot which was which and I asked her and she didn't respond...

I think you should contact customer service and explain that little issue you went through. I'd think you should be working there than that girl who served you ! lol!

  10. Ahh totally know what you mean. Sometimes you get very helpful SAs and other times you wonder if they know anything about the products they are selling. I definitely would have contacted customer service or a manager in this case.

  11. I've experienced something similar too. I once asked an MA if Embark eyeshadow was in the permanent line, and she was like NO! It's limited edition! Lol. From that day on, I never went up to that MA haha x

  12. I hate when salespeople are like that. They should listen to the customers and not assume.

  13. tell me about it, i went to my MAC counter on two separate occasions one to purchase the 109 brush and they were like what is that? i was given the same answer when i asked about the 182. I was like you work here?? i cant believe you dont know this, same shit happen when i asked for their strobe cream or some cream i already forgot, they said we dont sell that, i find the display with it on there and give it to her and say are you sure, then whats this!

  14. I totally 100% FEEL you on this. Something's serrrriously wrong if a make-up noob like me knows about a particular product and you (as the MAC make-up artist) don't. I actually have had this happened to be before at MAC. Next time I come in, I usually just steer clear of the same MUA. Lol, there ARE some who do know about their stuff though. Can't let some rotten apples spoil the bunch, right? :p

  15. That has happened to me once too. I remember going in and asking for Petals and Peacock from the Liberty of London collection and the MUA said flat out there was no such color. So I simply just went to another one. Sometimes I feel like I know more than the MUA as well. And I don't think it's loserish. It's just a makeup addict symptom :)

  16. It happens a lot of time you need to search for your make up at my Mac Counter...maybe it would change if the people there would stop moving to other Mac counters.

  17. Omg I agree with you! Im not a makeup artist just a makeup junkie and i know more about makeup products than those who worked there, like sephora and mac. I always go with my friends and im the one that helps them out to try things. i asked MAC SA for an msf and she didnt know what it was, my friend asked how much for the MSF and she didnt know, i had to but in and tell my friend. Oh lordy..i think i should work at mac or sephora.
